Jogging is a great form of exercise that boosts your energy and mood which is why so many people love it. Yet there are challenging aspects as well, such as sticking to your program day after day, week after week. Your progress can be slowed way down by an injury, so you need to be careful. The guidelines that follow are meant to help you keep you healthy and motivated with your jogging.
When you start a jogging or running program, it?s essential to be consistent about it. Most people have lots of enthusiasm when they begin a running routine, and sometimes they even get overzealous. That?s when injury results and so they put running off for a few months. This isn?t how you want to do it if you want to get the most out of your running routine. Just start slow and then make sure you focus on consistency. When it comes to running, go for a half hour three times per week for maximum benefit. Don?t worry about how fast or slow you?re going, especially when you?re first beginning. It?s much better to do a little bit at a time and stick with it than to do too much and burn yourself out. While you should never run or jog when you are ill or when you?re injured, you still might have to push yourself many times. If you always come up with excuses, like you?re too tired or you don?t have the time, then you will likely have a very hard time sticking with your running plan.
One good approach to begin with a running regimen is to do power walking which is quite common. If you are not used to exercise, or haven?t done it for a long time, walking can be a great way to gradually get your body accustomed to moving around. You can begin with the smallest steps you want, and then just proceed at your own comfortable pace. When the time is right, then just simply begin jogging slowly, and go according to your pace and feeling. When you proceed slowly and with caution, then you?re reducing the chances of possible injury. There are people all over who actually stick with power walking because it just works better for them, and actually power walking is an excellent exercise, as well. We still recommend walking first because it?s a safe and effective way to get used to running.
Hydration is important, and you should drink some fluids before running or jogging. Also, we have to say that you should never run on a full stomach. Ok? No confusion about the best thing to drink for hydration ? simple water, nothing more or less. Before you begin your jog, you should drink some water but never to the point where you feel bloated in your stomach. If you?re properly hydrated and in good health, and you?re not running a marathon there?s really no need to carry the Gucci water bottle with you unless you?re stylish. Only drink good clean water after you?re done punishing yourself and avoid anything colored. The hotter and more humid it is, the more important it becomes to hydrate.
In summary, jogging can be a fun, energizing and healthy habit. If you?re a little overweight, you can lose it with jogging but be safe about it and proceed slowly. We hope these very few tips have helped you, and maybe you?ll begin jogging and continue forever.
Furthermore, you can also add variety of gym equipment like Bench Press in your fitness trainingroutine, it can help boosts your physical health and fitness much easier as well as to ensure a much healthy workout in a rapid way. As long as you keep learning, you will naturally move into other areas. What matters most is that you exercise at least a few times every week.

A couple of weeks ago, the Right Wing blogosphere was chuckling over this drama queen shrieking that Democracy Died because some recall election didn?t go the way he liked:
Everyone had a laugh and we were given to understand that conservatives understood that citizens of an ordered democracy take their lumps when politics don?t go their way. Now, what to my wondering eyes should appear but Patrick Archibold seriously discussing bloody armed revolution because the SCOTUS didn?t find to his liking on a law that was duly passed by proper democratic process by the Congress and the Executive:
Liberty is Done. America Is Done
With over 50% of the people on the dole and with no checks and balances left to limit the power of the government left, America as we knew it is done.
The only check on tyranny left is revolution.? That can be peaceful or not peaceful, but the government as it stands must perish.
I am now convinced more than ever this will eventually lead to secession.
I fear that liberty lost is only found again in blood-soaked places.
Some additional comment.
How long until Congress figures out that they can tax you for voting Republican or failing to vote Democrat?
It is for days like these that God invented both tar and feathers.
And a reminder, for this very reason ?A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.?
Seriously? Violent revolution? Taking up arms? Secession? Blood-soaked? Tar and feathers?
I?m sorry, but what? Talk of revolution and bloodshed can only mean, in the end, talk of individual acts of terrorism or, perhaps, of small communities becoming enclaves of violent nutjobs. It?s an invitation and a clarion call to turn the US into Beirut, Lebanon.
And over what? Over a law that was passed by constitutional democratic process by duly elected officials.
When the the Progressives lost in Wisconsin, they pouted like teenage girls and then got on with life. Any talk about secession or violent revolution is way out of line.
Update: Pat rejoins:
Are you serious? Really?
I did not advocate vigilante violence or terrorism and for you to suggest so is ridiculous.
Do I think that this type of out of control governance will eventually lead to secession. I do think so. I didn?t advocate it.
I said that I fear that liberty lost is only found again in blood-soaked places. I do fear that.
Your comments are beyond reason and robustly silly.
Most readers of English, including most of your readers, seem to be understanding you as I did. When you say, ?The ***only check on tyranny left*** is revolution. That can be peaceful or not peaceful, but the government as it stands must perish? that does sound uncommonly like you are saying the only option left is revolution?and putting violent revolution on the table for discussion. So does, ?I am now convinced more than ever this will eventually lead to secession.? Secession is not commonly a peaceful process as the Great War of Attempted Secession demonstrated. And saying this without adding, ?which would be an extremely bad idea? does, along with everything else you say here, sound rather like sympathy for secession, not fear of it.
?I fear that liberty lost is ***only**** found again in blood-soaked places? does, it is true, have the clause ?I fear? in it. But it doesn?t read like you are discouraging the thought. It reads like you are saying why you believe the thought necessary to consider as a live option, frightening as it may be.
That perception is only encouraged when you add, ?It is for days like these that God invented both tar and feathers? since that does sound uncommonly like a call for vigilante violence, as does the suggestion that this legal act by elected state representatives is somehow an occasion for quoting this: ?A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.? That does sound very much like the suggestion, not the regret, that somebody should take up arms and start shooting somebody in reaction to this ruling.
I take Pat?s word for it that he did not mean to advocate violence. As somebody who, from time to time, says things that people misunderstand and who has to then issue further comments because my words were not as precise as was necessary to eliminate all misunderstanding, I empathize with the fact that we don?t always wind up communicating exactly what we hoped to. And as somebody who has, many times, had malicious jerks deliberately work with might and main to overlook years of my writing in order to attribute to me a view which I obviously do not hold, I can certainly understand that Pat would not want to have attributed to him something he doesn?t mean to say. So I would urge Pat to either take down or modify that blog entry, because as it is currently worded it is extremely easy to misunderstand, for the reasons I give here.
PS: On the bright side, if you read the comboxes over on Pat?s blog you will see the incredible spectacle of me and Joseph D?Hippolito taking the same side in an argument.

At the Google I/O keynote from day 1?(watch it here at the 20:00 minute mark), the Android team took the wraps off a new product called Google Now that was powered by a new version of Voice Search?(our hands-on). During the demo of it, we were all impressed by the beautiful new UI, answer cards with relevant info, and accuracy. To call this a giant step forward in voice searching, might even be an understatement.
Naturally, people were quick to compare this to Apple?s Siri since it gets all of the play these days in the voice search category. We argued that Siri isn?t even on the same level since Google Now actually predicts your life rather than forcing you to ask things of it all of the time, but that doesn?t mean we aren?t interested in a good battle between the two. So speaking of battles, who wants to see one??
Our friends at TechnoBuffalo happen to have both an iPhone and Galaxy Nexus, giving them the opportunity to put Siri and the new Voice Search to the test. I don?t mean to spoil anything, but as an Android fan, you will walk away from this with your head held high.

NEW YORK (AP) ? Sigourney Weaver and David Hyde Pierce are teaming up to play siblings this fall as both make a return to the stage in a Chekhov-inspired play.
Weaver, a three-time Academy Award nominee, and Tony Award-winning Pierce will star in Christopher Durang's "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike."
The play, which takes characters and themes from Chekhov and sets them in present day Pennsylvania, will start life at the McCarter Theatre in New Jersey before jumping to Lincoln Center Theater in October.
In the play, Vanya (Pierce) and his stepsister have stayed home to take care of their ailing parents while their movie star sister Masha (Weaver) has been touring the world. Sparks fly at a family reunion.
Weaver, who met Durang when both attended Yale University's School of Drama, has been in a Durang play before ? starring on Broadway in his "Sex and Longing" in 1996. Weaver and Pierce have both been in the playwright's "Beyond Therapy," but she was in an off-Broadway 1981 version and he took it to Broadway in 1982.
"Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike" will run from Sept. 7 through Oct. 7 at the McCarter Theatre. Previews at Lincoln Center begin Oct. 25 with an opening set for Nov. 12 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater.
It will be directed by Nicholas Martin. The rest of the cast will be made up of Genevieve Angelson, Shalita Grant, Billy Magnussen and Kristine Nielsen.
Weaver, whose Broadway credits include "Hurlyburly" in 1984, is working on the USA series "Political Animals." Her notable film credits include "Alien," ''Avatar," ''Working Girl" and "Ghostbusters."
Four-time Emmy Award-winner Pierce has spent a lot of time on stage since the end of his sitcom "Frasier," including Broadway stints in "Spamalot," ''Curtains," ''Accent on Youth" and "La Bete."

Q.:? I have a great deal of creative content that is produced in-house, all copywritten materials owned by my company.? I am not only better suited to creating the content, I also prefer to spend more of my time with the creation and marketing of that considerable content than in ?protecting? or chasing down the legal forms I should have filed early on.
What are the simplest steps I must take to launch the legal/IP protections/business filings for my tiny film/music/publishing studio?? Form an S Corp or LLC? Trademark my domain name?? Will my book?which has become the ?vision statement? for my business?help to ?protect? my overall IP content?
?
A.:? So wise to recognize that your energies are better spent creating your content than handling the business licensing and details of protecting it.? Leave the ?protecting? to the professional (attorneys). You don?t need to form an S Corporation or LLC to file for copyright protection?you can do that under your own name.
However, without knowing what you?ve created and how you intend to use it, it?s hard to say what your first steps should be. A website alone won?t protect your IP, nor will the book necessarily protect anything that?s not contained in it. Your best step would be to consult with a local IP attorney. That way, you can develop a sound strategy, time frame, and budget for business licensing and protecting your creative work the right way.

NEW YORK (AP) ? Two dozen people on four continents, including alleged two hackers from New York, have been arrested in an elaborate sting targeting a black market for online financial fraud, federal officials said Tuesday.
U.S. officials called the crackdown in the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia the largest enforcement effort ever against computer crooks who specialize in stealing and trafficking credit card, bank and other personal identification information on the Internet ? a practice known as "carding."
The officials claimed the two-year FBI sting protected more than 400,000 potential victims and prevented losses of around $205 million.
The arrests "cause significant disruption to the underground economy and are a stark reminder that masked (Internet protocol) addresses and private forums are no sanctuary for criminals and are not beyond the reach of the FBI," Janice Fedarcyk, head of the FBI's New York office, said in a statement.
U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara called the international investigation an unprecedented demonstration that "fraudsters cannot count on being able to prowl the Internet in anonymity and with impunity, even across national boundaries."
According to a criminal complaint unsealed Tuesday in federal court in Manhattan, the suspects bought and sold hacking programs and stolen information via secure websites.
In June 2010, undercover investigators set up their own website "as an online meeting place where the FBI could locate cybercriminals, investigate and identify them and disrupt their activities," the complaint said. The site ? called "Carder Profit" ? was rigged to allow agents to monitor and record private messages and identify the computers of registered users.
The complaints charged two alleged "carders" from the Bronx, Joshua Hicks and Mir Islam, with fraud. Both were released on bail following brief appearances in federal court in Manhattan. Neither entered a plea.
Undercover agents say they bought stolen data related to 15 American Express, MasterCard and Discover accounts from Hicks, a 19-year who lives with his mother and goes by the name "OxideDox" on the Internet.
In one instance, an undercover investigator delivered a digital camera as payment to Hicks for one of the stolen information "dumps," the complaint added. When the agent later asked the defendant in a chat if he liked the camera, the defendant responded, "A different model ... would have been better, but hey, a free camera is a free camera."
Using the name "JoshTheGod", the 18-year-old Islam advised another website user to keep fraudulent purchases from Apple under $350 to avoid detection, the court papers said. He also provided an undercover investigator with credit card numbers and Card Verification Value numbers and corresponding names and addresses, they said.
After Islam's arrest, authorities say Islam admitted that he also used the site to advertise his "doxing" service ? a term referring to the sharing of an "individual's name, address, phone number, date of birth, Social Security number, email address in order to embarrass, harass or retaliate against such individual."
Another defendant from Tucson, Ariz., was accused of trying to sell viruses on the FBI site that was designed to take over and remotely control a victim's computer. The malware programs allowed buyers to turn on the web camera of an infected computer and spy on the users, and to record user names and passwords on bank and other accounts, authorities said.
The registration process for the bogus website required unwitting users "to agree to terms and conditions, including that their activities on the site were subject to monitoring for any purpose," the complaint said.
Investigators made 11 arrests in various states, including New York, Florida, Wisconsin and California. Thirteen others were picked up in the United Kingdom, Bosnia, Norway, Italy, Japan and elsewhere overseas. In addition, search warrants were executed in Australia and Canada.
If convicted, the U.S. defendants face five to 20 years in prison.

Residents of Bududa mill around an area where 18 people were buried alive following a mudslide in Bunamulembwa village in eastern Uganda.
By msnbc.com staff and news services
More than 100 people were missing and about 30 confirmed killed in eastern Uganda on Tuesday after a landslide the previous day buried villages in a coffee-growing area on the slopes of Mount Elgon, the government said.
On Monday, the Uganda Red Cross said at least 18 people had been killed in the disaster, but on Tuesday government officials said the number of fatalities was higher and that 109 people were still missing.
The search and rescue operation was called off on Tuesday after officials said the chances of finding any more survivors were slim.
"It is feared the landslide and floods buried about 29 homes with about 30 people dead," Stephen Mallinga, the minister of disaster preparedness and refugees, told a news conference.
He said the timing of the landslide - in the early afternoon - had prevented a much higher death toll.
"When the landslide occurred at about 2 pm, many people had gone to the market and some children were at school. Both the market and the school were not affected," he said.
Up to 400,000 people could require humanitarian aid as the rain intensified, forcing them to abandon their homes for fear of further mudslides, he added.
The Daily Monitor newspaper reported that at least 11 villages in the mountainous Bududa area of eastern Uganda?had been hit and two, Namaaga and Bunakasala, had been completely engulfed.
Witness Rachael Namwono, 29, told the paper that at least 30 homes in Mabaya Village ? containing an estimated 300 people ? had been covered.
"At 2 p.m., the ground trembled, followed by heavy rumbling of soil and stones which covered our home," Namwono told the Monitor.
Two officials in Bunamulembwa Village said about 100 houses were destroyed, the paper added.
'Devastation'
It was not immediately possible to verify the report, but officials in Bududa told The Associated Press that they feared that hundreds of people had been killed.
The affected villages are in a coffee-growing area on the slopes of Mount Elgon straddling the Kenyan border.
Red Cross spokeswoman Catherine Ntabadde told Reuters that the latest reports had confirmed 18 people had died "but assessment of the devastation around the area is continuing."
A local member of parliament, David Wakikona -- who said he had initial reports of more than 100 people buried -- said there was an ongoing danger.
"The areas around Bududa district have been experiencing heavy rains for days now," he told Reuters. "I am told the landslides started around midday today [Monday] and that they're still going on and some villagers who survived the early slides are fleeing."
Landslides caused by heavy rains are frequent in eastern Uganda, where at least 23 people were killed last year after mounds of mud buried their homes. Scores of people were buried alive in a similar disaster in March 2010.

Japan's lower house of parliament voted today to double the sales tax. The bill still has to pass the upper house, and many question if it can make a significant dent in Japan's massive public debt.
By Gavin Blair,?Correspondent / June 26, 2012

EnlargeJapan?s lower house of parliament today passed a controversial bill to double the consumption tax to 10 percent. The move comes as the country grapples to rein in its public debt, set to hit one quadrillion ? 1,000 trillion ? yen ($12.6 trillion) this fiscal year.
google_ads[0].line2 + '

google_ads[0].line3 + '
The bill, which still has to make its way through the upper house, will increase the sales tax to 8 percent in 2014 and 10 percent in 2015. Some are concerned that the tax increase could dampen already fragile consumption in the world?s third-largest economy, and that it won?t raise enough money to make a significant dent in the growing debt mountain.
?Everybody knows a debt crisis is coming,? says Martin Schulz, senior economist at the Fujitsu Research Institute in Tokyo, ?most people in Japan are simply closing their eyes to it.?
After months of political wrangling, the bill was approved by a resounding 363 to 96 votes, with the support of the two main opposition parties.
?We have taken a big first step toward reform, both for the sake of present-day Japanese and for future generations,? Prime Minister Yoshihiro Noda told reporters after the vote.
However, 57 members of the ruling Democratic Party of Japan, led by powerbroker Ichiro Ozawa, voted against the government. This raises the prospect of a mass defection that could rob Mr. Noda of his parliamentary majority.
According to Ministry of Finance statistics, debt now represents 230 percent of Japan?s $5.5 trillion economy, compared with 165 percent in crisis-stricken Greece and America?s 100 percent debt. While more than 90 percent of Japanese debt is still owned domestically, meaning there is no immediate danger of the kind of external pressure that crippled Greece, Japan is now in uncharted waters for a modern industrial economy, and the potential consequences for the world economy are exponentially more severe.
Japan is also the second-largest foreign holder of American debt behind China, with approximately a trillion dollars in US Treasury bonds. The Japanese government would have to consider selling at least some of these reserves to raise funds if servicing its own debt at home became problematic. That, in turn, could increase the cost of borrowing for the US government, putting further pressure on its also creaking public finances.
However, selling US treasuries would be ?very politically sensitive,? according to?Dr. Schulz, and something Japan would do its best to avoid.
Over the years, Japan has managed to sustain such astronomically high levels of debt in part by borrowing at very low interest rates from its own citizens and corporations, essentially drawing on high household saving rates and huge trade surpluses. With both of these now dwindling, however, that lifeline may soon be cut.
Some 20 years ago, Japanese households saved nearly 15 percent of their incomes ? the rate for the US was less than half that. By 2011, saving rates in the US had fallen to 3.6 percent, but in Japan they had plummeted to 3.2 percent.? ?
With Japan recording its first trade deficit in 31 years in 2011, and a return to surpluses looking unlikely due to the declining competitiveness of its export industries, fresh funds to pay for its ballooning debts are going to be harder to come by.
Half of the government?s annual budget is now funded by issued debt, and options for bringing it under control are limited.
Takashi Shiono, an economist at Credit Suisse in Tokyo, says the government is ?almost ignoring the debt except for trying to raise the consumption tax.? ?However, Mr. Shiono believes that as long as the government can keep borrowing from the still considerable pool of Japanese household assets, and the trade deficit doesn?t worsen severely, the debt will remain manageable.
The best chance of Japan escaping this downward spiral would be a period of sustained economic growth, something that looks unlikely with an aging, shrinking population and increasingly strong competition for its industries from lower-cost and more innovative Asian rivals.
And even growth would bring its own perils.??
If the economy did improve meaningfully, some inflation would be inevitable, leading to a rise in interest rates. Even a small rise in the cost of borrowing for the government would make it impossible to pay the interest on its vast debt. The most likely resulting scenarios are either rampant inflation or default.

Tony Cortes, who has been out of work for almost three years, and his partner Ana Valderrama have occupied an empty home in Terrassa, Spain, with their young daughters Jennifer and Ariadna.
By F. Brinley Bruton, msnbc.com
TERRASSA, Spain -- Ana Valderrama and Tony Cortes do not look like squatters.
The?suburban apartment they've illegally occupied since December is free of clutter.?Its stone floors shine while two?poster-sized pictures of daughters Jennifer, seven, and Ariadna, 11, hang on gleaming white walls.
Twelve months ago, life was very different.
Valderrama, 36, and Cortes, 38, had both been out of work for more than two years.?Unable to maintain payments on their 102,000-euro (around $128,000 at today?s exchange rates) mortgage, the couple?lost their home in this commuter town about 12 miles north of Barcelona.
"I was very depressed when I realized I may be on the street with my two girls," Cortes told msnbc.com.?"It?s a depression the whole family feels, a sort of Chinese torture."
Desperate to ensure they had a roof over their head, Valderrama, Cortes and 10 other families took possession of an empty apartment building. But life is still precarious. The family of four?now lives on 641 euros ($800)?a month in public assistance and they could face eviction at any time.
Destitution
While sophisticated and fun-loving Barcelona serves as the country's showcase to the world, Terrassa is?among the?many towns hiding Spain's shame: Despite boasting Europe's fourth-largest economy, hundreds of thousands have been forced into destitution by the country's?housing crash.
Photos: Faces of Spain's economic crisis
Many Spaniards?now exist on the margins of a society that just a few years ago promised them easy access to cars, holiday homes, trips abroad and regular tickets to professional?soccer games.
The crisis?was born out of?a mighty housing and construction bubble that saw house prices triple between 1995 and 2007. They've?fallen by at least a quarter since then.
'The country is on its knees': Ireland grapples with economic collapse
About one out of every four people in Spain is without a job, according to government statistics. However,?the large so-called "gray economy" mitigates the effects of unemployment, the IMF says.
In 2010, court evictions hit 100,000 ? four times the total?in 2007. About 200 homes are repossessed every day?across Spain, according to the Platform for People Affected by Mortgages (PAH) campaign group.
These repossessions continue despite a voluntary ethical code signed by many?banks that is intended to delay evictions by two years in cases of families with no income.?Still, an estimated 20 percent of the country?s unoccupied homes are now owned by banks, The Economist reported.
You don?t have to look very far to see the toll the crash has taken on people who have worked all their lives. ?
Before the crisis Juan Antonio Pache, 67, did not think of himself as poor.
His construction business once employed nine people. He borrowed money to build a house on land he already owned, and a few years later he borrowed more to extend it.
Xavier Cervera / Panos for msnbc.com
Juan Antonio Pache, 67, who lost a construction business that once boasted nine employees, is now receiving help from Catholic organization Caritas.
Pache's company thrived, he said, until 2007 when he noticed a fall-off in new business. By April 2008, income had decreased "vertically," he said.
"I made proposals, proposals and proposals but no projects came," he said. He fell behind on payments to Spain's equivalent of Social Security. Soon he could not afford his mortgage payments of around 3,000 euros a month.
Now the bank has seized?his house and land. He has lost his business and lives with his son in Sabadell, a city northwest of Barcelona.? ?
He doesn't receive a state pension, and his wife has moved in with family in another town.?
"All I've done is work. I've worked day and night on the highways. And after so much work I have no house and no pension," he said, standing very straight. "I don't know what kind of country this is."
Greek tragedy: Economic crisis sparks brain drain
With banks in a fierce competition for new customers and mortgages easy to come by, some borrowers doubtless took on too much debt during the boom years. But even as the crisis hit, politicians assured the public that all would be well.
In 2008, former Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero declared that Spain had "perhaps the most solid financial system in the world."
Infant malnutrition
The fact the crisis is taking a toll in a relatively wealthy part of Spain surprises those who work with the most vulnerable.
"We have noticed a huge increase in people asking for food assistance ? around three times more than a year ago," said Ester Soto, a manager at Terrassa's Red Cross homeless shelter.
Xavier Cervera / Panos for msnbc.com
Aida Abello and Ester Soto work at a Red Cross homeless shelter in Terrassa, Spain.
Fraying family networks and swinging cuts in social programs, as well as the worsening crisis, are the likely reasons for this growth, she said.
More startlingly, the Red Cross is also seeing evidence of infant malnutrition for the first time in decades, Soto added.
"And this is not a poor town," she said.
Spain's financial plight has taken center stage for European Union leaders who are tackling long-term plans for closer fiscal and banking union in a bid to strengthen the euro's foundations, after bailouts for Greece, Ireland and Portugal failed to end a 2-1/2-year old debt crisis.
On June 9, the European Union stepped in with the promise of a bank-bailout plan of up to 100 billion euros ($125 billion) and Spain formally requested the rescue on Monday. The original announcement failed to calm nerves as investors worried that it might not be enough and a wholesale bailout of Spain could be in the offing.
Spain to seek bailout; up to $125 billion on table
Paul De Grauwe, a prominent economist and professor at the London School of Economics, said that not only would the bailout announced in early June probably be inadequate, it was unlikely that European Union?s response would help ease the suffering of millions of Spaniards.
He also said the European Union's decision-making process, which is propelled by economic powerhouse Germany, is deeply undemocratic.
"Today it is a German politician who decides about Spain," he said. "They couldn?t care less about the Spanish unemployed. They will only care about unemployment if it is German unemployment. They will only care about youth unemployment if it is German youth unemployment."
Germany grows weary of being Europe's crutch
'I want to work'
Spanish youth unemployment stands at 50 percent, the highest in Europe. Such statistics are a fact of life for university student Marisol Martin.
"I want to work, have money, be independent and have my own place," the 19-year-old said. "I go on the Internet, send out resumes and resumes but nothing."
The only opportunities for people like her, she said, are unpaid work experience positions or poorly paid jobs in bars or restaurants.
So she is taking English classes and hopes to one day leave Spain.
Xavier Cervera / Panos for msnbc.com
Marisol Martin, right, has been encouraged by her father to leave Spain. Her friend Laia Moreno also has little optimism about the future in her homeland.
"My dad?s told me and my sister that what I have to do is get out and go to England," she said.
Martin's friend Laia Moreno, 18, lives with her mother. "I would like to have my own place and my own life," she said.
"I wanted to be a teacher," she adds. But for now, that dream has died and she's trying to get a driver's license so she can deliver pizzas.
'I had to sell everything'
Life isn't much better for many immigrants, with the unemployment in these communities hovering at around 35 percent. ?
Wilson Lopez left Ecuador more a decade ago in search of a better life for his wife and son. Nine years ago, he took on a mortgage of 109,000 euros, on which his wife Isabel and he made interest-only payments, Lopez said.
"I paid my mortgage loyally for nine years," the 63-year-old native of Guayaquil said during a protest organized by the PAH in Barcelona.
CSM: As Europe peers into economic chasm, Africa is rising
In 2010, Lopez lost his job as a security guard in a local hotel.
"I had to sell everything ? my wife's jewelry, our television, clothes ? everything," he said.
Lopez would like to hand over the apartment's keys to the bank and have done with it, he said. But he can't because most homeowners in Spain can be pursued for mortgage debt even after their properties have been repossessed.
Xavier Cervera / Panos for msnbc.com
Wilson Lopez, 63, is originally from Ecuador.
Instead, Lopez felt forced to extend the loan for another 40 years. He pointed out wryly that he will be over 100 when it runs its course.
"The government works for the banks but it does not help the people," he said.
This sort of disillusionment has grown as people impacted by the crisis watch the government bailing out banks while imposing widespread cuts to public services.
Amid this backdrop, the Platform for People Affected by Mortgages (PAH) has sprouted branches throughout the country.
In the last six months, PAH has suspended or delayed dozens of evictions by protesting outside foreclosed homes and helping people negotiate with their banks. Their highly public campaign has fed a wave of defiance and forced the government to promise relief for borrowers.
But the organization is not "superman," warned PAH organizer Guillem Domingo.
"This country?s politicians need to step-up, be courageous," he said.
Spanish bailout may prove to be stopgap measure
Spain's "indignados" or M-15, which helped spark the global "Occupy" movement, is also flexing its muscles. While huge public protests have largely died down, the group, along with the PAH, has seen an opportunity in the country's estimated one million empty homes for the growing number of homeless.
And on June 15, activists filed a case against the former management of one of the largest lenders Bankia, whose partial nationalization helped push Spain to seek the EU bailout.
The mass movement has helped raise tens of thousands of euros via crowdsourcing to bring a case against the bank.?
Ghost towns tell the story of Ireland's faded dream
The apartment illegally occupied by Cortes and Valderrama?is owned by CatalunyaCaixa, a regional bank. The unofficial residents' offers to pay rent to the bank have so far gone unanswered, PAH organizer Domingo said.
CatalunyaCaixa did not respond to a request for information or comment on their plans for the apartment building.
Still, defying the powers-that-be has energized Valderrama and Cortes.
"Every day that passes I feel stronger," Valderrama said. "I have gone through so much, and every time you do you become more powerful."
"I lost my shame many years ago," Cortes added and smiled.

CARDIFF CITY boss Malky Mackay insists his great friend Brendan Rodgers will revel in the pressure at Liverpool.
Rodgers quit the top job at Swansea City recently to take up the reigns at Anfield following the departure of Kenny Daglish.
At the age of just 39, the Northern Irishman finds himself in one of the most high profile posts in British football.
But Mackay, who is himself preparing for his second season in charge in the Welsh capital, believes Rodgers is ready for the challenge and more than equipped to make a success of things on Merseyside.
Mackay has been good friends with Rodgers since they were at Watford together.
After finishing his playing days with the Hornets, Mackay found himself caretaker manager at Vicarage Road after Aidy Boothroyd departed.
In November 2008 Rodgers was appointed Watford boss and kept Mackay on as his number two.
When Rodgers departed for an ill-fated spell at Reading he recommended Mackay as his successor in the Hornets? hot-seat handing the Scot his big break in football management.
Last summer Mackay joined Rodgers in Wales, but the Bluebirds? boss admits he is thrilled to see his friend move onwards and upwards.
?I?m absolutely delighted for Brendan. I?ve spoken to him regularly over the last couple of weeks.? said 40-year-old Mackay.
?He showed what he could do in the Premier League last season and now a club of higher standing has come in for him whilst his stock is high.
?He did a fantastic job at Swansea, that?s been well documented and it?s a very smart move by Liverpool.
?People might say he is young, but when you look at his reputation, at what he?s done then it is a move he has more than earned.?
Rodgers faces the task now of living up to the expectations of Liverpool and its supporters.
Anfield-legend Daglish was shown the door after Liverpool finished eighth last campaign and Rodgers? Reds will at least be expected to be challenging for a Champions League place this time around.
But Mackay believes Rodgers is strong minded enough to cope with the expectations.
?There?s not many clubs where there is more pressure than Liverpool,? said Mackay.
?But if you have ambition, which most managers do, and you want to play and manage at highest level then it's something you revel in.
?Brendan is the type who knows exactly what he wants to do when he goes in. He is a very focussed person.
?I?ve worked for him and he has a really good work ethic about him. He knows the way he wants to work and way he wants players to play.
?He will go in at Liverpool with exactly same work ethic and he will structure the club the way he wants it, I?ve no doubts that he will walk in and affect Liverpool from the start. Brendan will certainly not be overawed in the slightest that much is for certain.?

Everything we know so far about the possibility of a smaller Apple tablet
Since the release of the original?iPad back in 2010, speculation that?Apple would release a smaller version of the tablet has continued to grow. While rumors of an imminent launch for an iPad mini have been around for years ? kept alive mainly by financial analysts ? the details surrounding the proposed device have changed. Here's what we know so far.
Quirky size
One of the few consistent rumors about the proposed iPad mini is its size. Since the rumblings began and after?several reports, most insiders are in agreement that the size of a potential iPad mini would be 7.85 inches. Odd size, you say? Sure, but after?using the similarly sized Galaxy Tab 7.7, it may be the perfect size for a smaller tablet.
Unresolved resolution
Rumors had the iPad mini coming with the same 1024 x 768 screen that the original iPad and?iPad 2 came with, but those details were reported before the?new iPad was released with a resolution of 2048 x 1536, double that of previous versions. It's unknown if Apple would bump a potential iPad mini to the higher resolution or stick with the lower resolution screen to keep the price down.
Punchier price
The main reason that Apple would even consider releasing a smaller iPad would be to combat the growing sales of a device like the?Kindle Fire, which dominates the non-iPad tablet market. With the Fire priced at $199, you can expect the proposed iPad mini to be near (or at least closer to) that price point. Most of the analysts and developers I have spoken with believe that an iPad mini would come in at $299.
Is a mini really coming?
Whether or not the mini is actually in the works is debatable. Next to an Apple television, this is the most persistent Apple rumor that hasn't come to fruition in the slightest. The reasoning behind the rumor ? and why it has come back to life stronger than ever over the past few months ? is the belief that there is a substantial burgeoning market for smaller tablets, but that may not be the case. Currently, there are only two small tablets that have actually made a mark: the?Kindle Fire and, to a lesser extent, Barnes & Noble's?Nook.
With smaller tablets occupying a minor portion of the overall tablet market and the iPad 2 still doing?remarkable numbers, the main reason Apple would release an iPad mini is moot at the moment.?The market can change quickly, however, and this may not be the case in a few months.
But remember, Steve Jobs wasn't too fond of smaller tablets. Back in 2010 during an earnings call,?Jobs said, "There are clear limits of how close you can place physical elements on a touchscreen before users cannot reliably tap, flick, or pinch them. This is one of the key reasons we think the 10-inch screen size is the minimum size required to create great tablet apps... The 7-inch tablets are 'tweeners. Too big to compete with a smartphone; too small to compete with an iPad."
